Biography

Raised by Frederick Charles Wombwell (fourth son of Sir George Wombwell, 3rd bt.) and his wife Marie whom he married in 1868, Almina Victoria was in fact the illegitimate daughter of Alfred Charles de Rothschild by Lady Wombwell. On 26 June 1866, Almina married George Edward Stanhope Molyneux Herbert, 5th earl of Carnarvon. They had two children: Henry George Alfred Marius Victor Francis (6th earl of Carnarvon), and Evelyn Leonora Almina (married Sir Brograve Campbell Beauchamp, 2nd bt.). The Earl died 5 April 1923; the Countess Almina remarried 19 December 1923 to Lt. Col. Ian Onslow Dennistoun [d. 1938], Member of the Royal Victorian Order, late Grenadier Guards.
