Leclanché, Maurice

French, 1847 - 1921

Biography

Son of Léopold Leclanché and Eugénie de Villenueve and brother of engineer Georges Leclanché [1839-1882], who invented a battery which bears his name. Maurice Leclanché directed the business after his brother's death. Maurice was a great friend and collector of the impressionists. Maurice's wife née Marie-Madeleine Petits-Courtois [1862-1924] donated a portrait of his mother by Diaz to the Louvre in 1922; the remainder of the collection was dispersed at auction in Paris on 6 November 1924.
