How have textiles influenced abstract art? This interactive workshop will include an exploration of the exhibition Woven Histories: Textiles and Modern Abstraction, followed by a hands-on studio session. Learn about the two basic components of weaving—the vertical warp and the horizontal weft—while experimenting with a variety of paper weaving techniques to create abstract compositions.

Be inspired by the work of Anni Albers, Olga de Amaral, and Igshaan Adams, as you meditate on the possibilities of color, line, grid, and space. Ages 18 and up. No artmaking experience necessary.

All materials are provided. Led by senior educator Nathalie Ryan. Questions? Email [email protected]
