Take in the audience favorite and award-winning films from the latest edition of New York International Children’s Film Festival! These amazing short films from around the world are sure to inspire curiosity and conversation for viewers big and small.

Kid Flicks Two is a series of short films full of challenges big and small: with obstacles like saving a beloved pet goat and navigating a lunar eclipse, this program is full of vibrancy and adventure.  Recommended for ages 8 and up.

Drop-In Artmaking: DrawTogether Strangers feat. Wendy MacNaughton

This month, join Wendy MacNaughton, celebrated artist and visual storyteller, as she brings DrawTogether Strangers to the National Gallery of Art in connection with the exhibition Dorothea Lange: Seeing People. DrawTogether Strangers is a global portrait project connecting strangers through the simple act of looking and drawing, two people at a time. Meet the artist and create a one-of-a-kind portrait full of surprises and discovery.

Introduction: Rothko Paintings

East Building Auditorium, 12:00 p.m. – 12:45 p.m.

This talk introduces the range of Mark Rothko’s paintings, from early figurative subjects and surrealist works to his soft-edged rectangular fields.  Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Mark Rothko: Paintings on Paper, this talk focuses on works in the exhibition as well as those on view in the East Building Tower.

Photojournalism Now: Students Respond

How has photojournalism changed over the last century? Join us in the exhibition Dorothea Lange: Seeing People  for talks led by photojournalism students from the Corcoran School of the Arts & Design at GW. Featuring some 100 photographs, the exhibition addresses Lange’s innovative approaches to picturing people, emphasizing her work on social issues in the 1930s and 1940s, including economic disparity, migration, poverty, and racism.

Women Artists New to the National Gallery

In celebration of Women’s History Month, join us for this gallery talk featuring two new acquisitions to the collection—Portrait of Lucia Bonasoni Garzoni (c. 1590) painted by Lavinia Fontana and Virgin and Child (c.1680/1686), a polychrome sculpture by Luisa Roldán. Led by senior lecturer David Gariff.
